The HORMONE Truth Every Woman Needs to Know (+ Why MEN Should Pay Attention Too)
Breaking the HRT Myth: It’s Not Just for Menopause (And Not Just for Women)
Hey there! -
This is Nichole. Not SPAM. Not robot generated. Just me clicking away on my keyboard, trying to educate and maybe clarify some things!
I would like to address something that’s been on my mind lately – the massive misconception that women only need hormone replacement therapy (HRT) during or after menopause. AND that only elderly men or "gym bros" need testosterone replacement therapy.
This couldn’t be further from the truth.
The Reality About Hormones (For Both Men and Women)
Your hormones don’t suddenly decide to work perfectly until you hit 50 and then crash overnight – and this applies to BOTH sexes. Hormonal imbalances can begin affecting women in their 20s, (YES 20's!) 30s, and 40s, while men often start experiencing testosterone decline as early as their 30s.
Men: If you’re experiencing low energy, decreased motivation, weight gain (especially around the midsection), reduced muscle mass, mood changes, or declining libido – your testosterone levels might be the culprit.
Women: If you’re dealing with persistent fatigue, unexplained weight gain, brain fog, low libido, mood swings, or sleep disturbances – your hormones might be the missing piece of your wellness puzzle.
A little bit of My Personal Journey (And Why I’m Sharing This Photo)
~ On a random day in the field down my path ~
(Taken with my iPhone on a 10 second timer. The phone is holding on for dear life by the pop-socket whilst hanging from my open gas tank door cover.)
I’m sharing this photo not because HRT will give you muscles (it won’t!), but to illustrate an important point about what balanced hormones actually CAN do.
These results happened because I chose to pursue strength training consistently while having optimized hormones. The muscles? That’s from years of dedicated gym work, proper nutrition, and recovery.
HRT didn’t build these muscles – the gym did. BUT...
What HRT did was give me back the energy, motivation, and mental clarity to stick with my fitness goals. Testosterone helped my body do what I asked it to do. It made me feel like myself again – the person who had the drive to show up consistently.
Here’s the key: HRT restores that sense of vitality and balance that makes you feel “right” again, like the person you remember being. What you choose to do with that renewed energy is entirely up to you.
Some of my patients use their balanced hormones to tackle demanding careers, others to be more present with family, and yes, some choose fitness goals like mine. The point is having the energy and mental clarity to pursue what matters to YOU.

Here's another picture from my favorite place to be... in my yard and gardens.
A wee little praying mantis. Did you know, in North Carolina, praying mantises typically live for 10 to 12 months?
